The two sides went back and forth searching for the opening goal in the first half, but both Cassio and Muriel were up to the task, making several saves to keep the match level.

Mateus Vidal had the best chance of the half in the 41st minute, but Muriel stood strong and kept Fluminense in the match.

Corinthians would get their massive away goal 10 minutes into the second stanza when Pedrinho latched onto a deflected shot and slid the ball into the far corner.

With Fluminense needing two goals to advance, the home side pressed on and would eventually get their equaliser in the 83rd minute as Pablo Dyego broke the Corinthians line and headed home Nenê’s free-kick.

After nine minutes of extra-time, Corinthians escaped with the aggregate victory by away goals, much to the delight of the traveling support.
