Club León would have won Group E of the Copa MX Clausura had they beaten Cruz Azul on Wednesday night.

However, with a 1-1 draw, they will have to wait for the last duel of the group between Cruz Azul and second-division side Alebrijes de Oaxaca to determine who will move on to the Copa MX round-of-16.

León are currently on five points with a zero goal difference, while the two other teams in the group are now on four points, also with zero goal differences.

A draw between Oaxaca and Cruz Azul next week would create a sticky situation with all three teams on five points and zero goal differences, which would require multiple tiebreakers to determine who will advance.

On Wednesday, León struck first within 10 minutes after José Madueña accidentally put the ball into his own net.

Despite several errors, Pedro Caixinha’s side managed to rally and just before half-time, Peruvian international Yoshimar Yotún scored his first-ever goal for Cruz Azul.

The match to determine the group will take place on 19 February at the Estadio Azteca.
