With both team at different ends of the table with América (4-3-1, 13 points) sitting third while Chivas (2-2-3, 7 points) is 15th, four points out of a playoff spot, América’s Miguel Herrera opted to give his reserves a chance in the Super Classico, while Chivas’ Tomás Boy could not afford that luxury.

Although the match was simply a friendly, tension between these two heated rivals was at an all-time high, with both Carlos Vargas and Jesús Molina both being shown red cards.

Chivas returns to Liga MX Apertura on September 14 as they take on Atlas. As for América, they return to Liga MX action versus Pumas on the 14th as well.
