Pumas are one step closer to the Copa MX play-offs after their 2-1 win late on Tuesday night.
Bruno Marioniâs debut in charge of Pumas was a fantastic one as Alejandro Arribas completed a second-half comeback with an absolute golazo in the 84th minute.
Pumas are now at six points in Group I, which all but assures them a spot in the Copa MX play-offs.
Atlas remain on three points and will likely have to defeat Leones Negros in order to qualify for the knockout stage.
Atlas went out in front early through Osvaldo Martinezâs converted 53rd-minute penalty, which nearly tore the net off.
The lead would last less than three minutes as Carlos GonzĂĄlez leveled the score off a header following a free-kick that was awarded after Atlas goalkeeper Ădgar Adolfo HernĂĄndez handled the ball outside the area.
However, Pumas would strike late with a perfectly placed header off the bottom of the crossbar to give them an all-important three points.
Pumas are next in action on Sunday when they host Rayados in Liga MX play, while Atlas will travel to face Monarcas this Friday.
In the other Copa MX matches that were played on 29 January, here are the results:
Chivas 1-1 Cimarrones
Tampico Madero 0-1 FCÂ JuĂĄrez
Pachuca 0-1 Atlante
UAEM Potros 2-2 Correcaminos
