In the second round of Copa MX play, Chivas defeated Santos Laguna 2-1 thanks to an incredible performance from 21-year-old striker Alexis Vega.

Vega scored a pair of late goals three minutes apart to give Chivas a huge win to put them top of Group 7.

After a scoreless first half, Santos would strike first four minutes into the second stanza. A low corner somehow squirted through the box to Matheus Doria, who made no mistake from six yards.

Though the match looked relatively done and dusted, an unlikely hero emerged: Alexis Vega.

Vega, who has only featured for 24 minutes this season, was given a surprise start from Tomás Boy and certainly did not disappoint.

In the 82nd minute, Vega received Dieter Villalpando’s cross brilliantly before slotting the ball into the far corner to level the scoreline.

Just three minutes later, Vega got through on goal and provided a deft finish to give Chivas a thrilling victory.

Chivas will next be in action on Saturday when they face newly-promoted Atlético San Luis.
